Eyewitness Causes Changes
The Eyewitness Reporting Studio project aims to heighten public awareness about the situation regarding justice, freedom and human rights in Georgia and the South Caucasus region.
The Studio's team of professional journalists, as well as resident reporters from amongst the general public - the Live Voices Network - produces a series of short films and multimedia outputs documenting real-life stories experienced by local communities and individuals. These films provide a balance and alternative to the mainstream media which is often constrained by political or business interests and gives a biased or incomplete picture of realities on the ground. The project also aspires to offer a platform for voices that are frequently marginalized in the mainstream media, such as those of minorities, women and young people. A prominent place is given to contributions focussing on issues of human rights, the rule of law, economic development and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. The members of the Live Voices Network are also encouraged to work on blogs linked to this website.
Any responsible active person can become a reporter, shape the site’s content and share her or his own story
All 'resident reporters' accredited to the site receive basic training in camera handling and communicating a local perspective
Each author on the website is awarded an honorarium of 100 euros |
The website is also available for eyewitness video-clips, articles or photographs to be posted. It is easy to do by clicking “Upload” button in the top line of the website. Materials containing any form of violence or discrimination will not be accepted.
Over time, the hope is that the Eyewitness Studio will become an Internet-based People’s Television. At the same time, as not everybody in the Caucasus has access to the Internet, the Studio team will arrange for viewings of films in local communities. They will reproduce selected materials on DVDs and arrange for films from the site to be broadcast on local television channels and articles to be printed in the local press.
Weekly digests of what is new on the website are available to subscribers (please follow the link in the upper right corner)
